How a price is reached
- The visit costs $89 and includes a diagnosis of the whole unit.
- The diagnosis names the part or parts, and the price for your unit follows from that.
- You decide. Nothing is repaired until you accept the figure.
- If you go ahead, the $89 comes off the repair.
The six ranges
| Repair | What it covers | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Door gasket | A torn, flattened or hardened door seal, replaced and set so the door closes square. | $280–$610 |
| Fan motor | The fan inside the cabinet, or the one that cools the machine compartment. | $340–$750 |
| Defrost part or sensor | The heater that clears frost from the coil, its thermostat, or a temperature sensor. | $300–$600 |
| Ice maker or water valve | The ice maker, the valve that feeds it, or the water line behind the unit. | $280–$790 |
| Control board | The board that runs cooling and defrost, replaced only after the parts around it test good. | $440–$900 |
| Sealed system | Compressor, evaporator or a refrigerant leak: the system opened, repaired and recharged. | $1,290–$2,990 |
Ranges for full-size built-in and integrated units. Wine and undercounter units can differ.
What pushes a job up or down
- Reach. A part behind the front grille is quicker than one buried in the machine compartment.
- The model. Integrated units with cabinet panels sometimes need the panel eased off first.
- Knock-on faults. A failing fan can leave the coil iced; clearing that is part of the job.
- The sealed system. Opening it adds refrigerant recovery, brazing, vacuum and recharge.
The last of those has its own page: sealed-system cost.
Why cost comes first in Castle Rock
Castle Rock went from 8,708 residents in 1990 to 73,158 in 2020, and the steepest decade was 2000 to 2010. If your Sub-Zero went in with a house built then, it is 16 to 26 years old. At that age the question is rarely whether it can be fixed, and usually what the fix is worth, so this site leads with numbers.
For the middle of the table, see fan and control board cost. To book, go to refrigerator and freezer repair.
Two cost questions
How much does a Sub-Zero door gasket replacement cost?
Typically $280–$610, depending on the size of the door and the model. A gasket that has only lost its shape can sometimes be reseated or warmed back into place rather than replaced. We check that first, and when it saves you the part, we tell you.
Does a freezer repair cost more than a refrigerator repair?
Not by itself. The price follows the part and the time it takes to reach it, whichever compartment it serves, so a fan motor costs about the same on either side. The sealed system is the only repair that sits in a different league, because it serves the whole unit.
